Our Code of Conduct
Our McLeod Code of Conduct applies to all students, staff, caregivers and guests engaging in any activity that may have an impact on our school culture. Our Code of Conduct is in place to ensure that we all learn, work and play in a safe, kind and caring environment.
It is expected that students, staff, caregivers and guests will respect the diversity of our school community and the BC Human Rights Code which prohibits discrimination on the grounds of race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age, mental or physical disability, gender identification/expression, sexual orientation or sexual orientation as perceived by others (SD 91 Policy No. 502).
Our school is a place where we:
- demonstrate Proud to be McLeod citizenship qualities including a positive attitude, cooperation with adults and other students, service to the school, leadership and sportsmanship.
 - honour the rights of all others within the school community including peers, staff, caregivers and guests.
 - work to the best of our abilities in learning and with the goal of continuous improvement.
 - respect the school’s physical facilities, equipment and the property of staff and fellow students.
 - conduct ourselves in a safe and responsible manner at all times.
 - treat each other with kindness and caring and do not threaten, harass, bully, intimidate or assault, in any way, any person within the school community.
 - are not in possession of any object that is potentially dangerous including any weapons, legal or illegal, including replicas/imitations.
 - are not in possession or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, tobacco or vape type products in school buildings, on school trips or on school property.
 - adhere to the regulations of student conduct on school buses. (Policy and Regulations 702.1 - Student Transportation to and from School).
 - use technology responsibly.*
 - follow the district policy/regulations regarding student use and restrictions for “Personal Digital Devices” (Policy 604.1 and 604.1R. - District Technology, Consent and Privacy).*
 
Special considerations apply to students who are unable to comply with the Codes of Conduct due to having a disability/condition of an intellectual, physical, medical, sensory, emotional or behavioural nature.
* TECHNOLOGY AND PERSONAL DIGITAL DEVICE USE
While using technology at McLeod, our school is a place where we:
- ask permission first
 - only login, look at or delete our own files.
 - use the technology only for the purpose we have been given.
 - only use communication tools (e-mail, messenger, etc.) with the permission of a staff member.
 - do not inappropriately communicate with others (cyber-bullying, making threats, etc.)
 - never share personal information or arrange to meet with anyone.
 - demonstrate respect for all W. L. McLeod hardware and software.
 
Aligning with the SD91 Digital Technology, Consent and Privacy Policy and the Ministry of Education and Child Care requirements for cell phones and personal digital devices for elementary students:
- students in grades K to 3 are not to bring technology to school.
 - personal digital devices must be powered off and safely stored during the entire school day unless for instructional purposes and to promote digital literacy, and only with the permission and direct supervision of a staff member.
 - taking pictures, videotaping and recording is not allowed.
 - the school takes no responsibility for lost, missing or damaged personal digital devices that students choose to bring to school.
